"WE ARE A ONE STOP SHOP FOR ALL YOUR PRODUCTION NEEDS"
WHAT WE OFFER
CREW
We have our own in-house team of filmmakers who are equally as comfortable filming terrestrially, underwater or from the air. They have filmed, produced or directed for numerous acclaimed projects, including for the BBC, Vice on HBO, PBS and The Discovery Channel.
LOCATION SCOUTING
MFP has extensive expertise in location scouting. Whether you need to film targeted animal behaviour or a historical drama, we can find you the best locations and advise on the best time of year to do so.
TRANSLATORS
Whilst Malagasy and French are the two official languages in Madagascar there are in fact a host of different dialects around the country. This can make getting the correct translations rather tricky! Fortunately MFP’s in-house local fixers speak all of these local dialects, meaning that you can maximise your time in the field and properly share your vision with the local communities you are filming with.
WHAT WE OFFER
WILDLIFE & ENVIRONMENTAL PRODUCTION SPECIALISTS
We pride ourselves on our in-depth knowledge of Madagascar’s wildlife and it’s environment. Our team lives in Madagascar and has travelled extensively throughout the country and has a wealth of first-hand knowledge and contacts at our fingertips that can help with all your production needs.
LOGISTICS, EQUIPMENT RENTALS & FIXERS
MFP has experienced local fixers as well as an extensive selection of broadcast quality equipment for hire at very competitive rates. This includes equipment for aerials, underwater and terrestrial shoots. We can also organize local transport, accommodation, provisions and film permits.
RESEARCH
Using our specialist knowledge of Madagascar from the air, terrestrially and underwater, we can undertake many aspects of pre-production, in particular research, specialist consultation and story development to help ensure production success.
CONTACTS
Our years of work here means that we have established long lasting friendships with leading conservationists, scientists, local communities, politicians and law-enforcement agencies. Being part of this network allows us unique access to locations across Madagascar ultimately making it possible for us to facilitate logistical support for projects of any size.
STOCK IMAGERY
Over the years we have travelled to some of the most amazing and hardest to reach areas of the country. Along the way we have amassed a huge collection of high quality stock video and photographs featuring the best of what Madagascar has to offer as well as the environmental threats facing it. If you are interested in acquiring stock video or photographs then please

TESTIMONIALS
Chris filmed for the ZDF TV prime-time documentary “SOS Ocean: Help for an endangered habitat”. Therefore the visual demands could not have been higher. His camerawork was outstanding, as was his passionate commitment to telling non-fictional stories about conservation issues in a respectful and engaging manner. I could not have had a better DOP in Africa. I enjoyed every minute.

Chris Scarffe of Madagascar Film & Photography (MFP) doesn’t have one title; he shoots, produces, edits, and directs. Whether above or below water, MFP brings an unmatched level of professionalism and commitment to all aspects of production. The teams positive attitude and ability to work in high stress situations and remote areas of the country was invaluable to our production. On top of that I was extremely impressed with the quality of their footage.

Chris’s experience and professionalism shone through - we were able to get some very powerful and technically sound footage (of shark fishing communities) without any issues. On top of that he was very personable and a pleasure to work with.

I've spent more than a decade working with field producers and fixers from all over the world, and Madagascar Film & Photography (MFP) still stands out. We asked the impossible of them, and yet they delivered, securing unprecedented access to people and places under tight deadline pressure, Chris & Goff always found a way to make it happen. It's safe to say our story would never have happened without them, and I'm already eagerly anticipating the next story I can collaborate with MFP on.

Chris Scarffe of Madagascar Film & Photography is a professional who fuels his work with his passion for the projects he works on and his own personal curiosity. We worked together to develop a story that dealt with very difficult access as well as very real dangers and Chris and his colleague Goff delivered more than we expected. Chris is also very unique because of his high skill levels as a producer, cinematographer, underwater videographer, and as a drone operator. Thanks again to MFP, the whole team is looking forward to working with you all again.

Chris did fantastic job filming for our BBC World documentary. The sea life looks amazing and was the highlight of the show. He also shot some wonderfully imaginative set ups of divers being trained. We simply would not have got anything this good without him. I would highly recommend Chris and hope to work with him again in the future.
