CHRIS SCARFFE

Co-Founder & Director

Chris is a British multi-award winning independent filmmaker and photographer with over fifteen years of creative experience spent fulfilling the roles of director/producer, cinematographer, underwater camera operator and as a CAA licensed drone operator. Chris is a passionate naturalist, environmentalist and adventurer and the bulk of his work reflects these passions. Over the years he has travelled all over the world to some of the remotest and most dangerous places for a wide range of broadcast and NGO clients. Along the way he has documented the best of what mother nature has to offer as well as the serious threats facing our planet.

Chris first came to Madagascar in 2011 to cover a range of conservation stories. He instantly fell in love with the incredible people and unique flora and fauna. Hooked by what he saw Chris made every effort to come back as often as possible to the “eighth continent”.  In 2020 he decided to settle for good and co-create Madagascar Film & Photography with Goff.

His recent credits include directing, co-producing and filming for the multi award winning documentary Eyes of the Orangutan in partnership with Terra Mater Factual Studios. The studio who produced the critically acclaimed environmental documentaries Sea of Shadows and The Ivory Game. Filmed and produced over 4 years Chris and the crew went undercover to investigate the often murky world of the Wildlife Tourism industry in orangutans.

Chris also filmed aerials, underwater and terrestrially for the BBC documentary, The Octopus In My House, which went on to win Best Animal Behaviour Film - Long From at Jackson Wild 2020. Nature film's equivalent of the Oscars.

MICHEL "GOFF" STROGOFF

Co-Founder & Manager

Michel Strogoff a.k.a Goff is a Malagasy photographer and filmmaker best known for his conservation and wildlife photography (See his portfolio at the bottom of the page). His work in this field has recently been recognised by being selected to join the prestigious Explorers Clubs inaugural 50 Club. An initiative that aims to recognise and amplify 50 remarkable explorers who are changing the world and extend the meaning and impact of exploration. He has also recently been selected to be one of the judges on the United Nations 2021 World Oceans Day Photography Competition. These achievements are especially remarkable given that Goff has only relatively recently turned his hand to film and photography.

Goff grew up in the southwest of Madagascar a member of the semi-nomadic fishing people known as the Vezo. As a result he spent countless hours sailing up and down much of the west coast of Madagascar fishing. In 2009 he decided on a change of career and started working for the British marine Conservation NGO, Blue Ventures, who were working in his small fishing village of Andavadoaka. Goff worked with the NGO to try and help empower local communities to improve the management of their marine resources. As a result Goff got a better understanding of the environmental issues facing his country, he learnt English and became a PADI Assistant Dive Instructor.

In 2014 Goff was recommended as a fixer and translator for a shoot for Vice on HBO on overfishing that MFP’s director Chris Scarffe was working on. Goff excelled as a can do fixer and the pair quickly became good friends. Goff is now an accomplished photographer, fixer and camera operator in his own right. He has worked with a wide range of broadcast, NGO and corporate clients, including the BBC, Vice on HBO, Blue Ventures, the Durrell Conservation Trust and the Thomson Reuters Foundation.
